We are looking for a Fermentation team member to join the Inbiose team in Ghent, Belgium.

About the job:

You will work in the fermentation team, which is responsible for the development of fermentation processes for complex sugars. For this, bioreactors of 5 to 30L are used in a fed-batch setup. This equipment is used for research purposes but also for process development and process validation experiments. Your focus will be to operate the bioreactors, take samples and analyze the results. Afterwards, you will evaluate the outcome of the fermentation, and propose improvements, together with the team. Additionally, you will help in maintaining the equipment and keep the work environment a clean and safe place.

Your profile:

  • You have a BSc or MSc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Industrial engineering or similar preferably with a specialty in biotechnological process development

  • You are familiar with fermentation technology

  • You are interested in R&D and the development of novel biotechnological processes and have a critical scientific viewpoint

  • You are a team player and will work in a flexible team on the development of production processes through fermentation

  • You are willing to learn new techniques and expand your knowledge

  • You have an eye for detail, work accurately and aim for qualitative work

  • Experience in following complicated protocols and SOPs

  • Capability to manage multiple experiments within a single day

  • You are fluent in English

  • Knowledge about statistical packages such as R and Electronic Lab Notebook systems are a plus

Responsibilities:

  • You will run fermentation processes and be part of a production process development team

  • You will prepare experiments for the development of new production processes, the scale-up of existing production processes and prepare products for downstream processing development

  • You will run experimental analysis for several projects and collaborate with other scientists for these analysis

  • Preparing laboratory materials and samples for analysis

  • You will introduce and report novel methods

  • Maintain, analyze and report experimental data

  • Collaborate with other scientists on experimental designs

  • You will take on general laboratory responsibilities and apply organizational and creative skills to improve lab operations

  • Maintain safe practices and work environment
