Research Associate Fermentation technology

Inbiose is a spin off company from Ghent University specialized in the development of biotechnological production processes for specialty carbohydrates. Inbiose is a B2B company for ingredients that find application in human and animal nutrition, personal care and health care. Inbiose is a leading company in the development of Human Milk Oligosaccharides, which are of paramount importance for the health of babies.

Inbiose is a high-growth company, with a staff of about 40 people and is set to continue its expansion.

Because of new projects, the R&D department of Inbiose is looking for a new lab technician to collaborate in the molecular biology team. The main tasks of this team are cloning, transformation and screening.

Profile

  • You have a BSc or MSc in Biotechnology, Bio-engineering or similar with a speciality in biotechnological process development with some years of experience.
  • You are experienced with large as well as small scale fermentation technology.
  • You are experienced with downstream processing unit operations.
  • You have experience with working with piloting and production facilities.
  • You are interested in R&D and the development of novel biotechnological processes and have a critical scientific viewpoint.
  • You can work independently and flexible, but are a team player and will work in collaboration with other scientists on the development of new production processes.
  • You are willing to learn new techniques and expand your knowledge.
  • You have an eye for detail, work accurately and aim for qualitative work.
  • Experience in writing, optimizing, and following complex protocols and SOPs.
  • Capability to manage multiple experiments within a single day.
  • You are proficient with office productivity software.
  • You are fluent in English.
  • Knowledge about statistical packages such as R, Electronic Lab Notebook systems are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • You will develop novel fermentation processes and downstream processing unit operations in collaboration with a team.
  • You will follow up work at piloting and production facilities.
  • Preparing laboratory materials and samples for analysis.
  • You will introduce and report novel techniques.
  • Manage and coordinate complex experimental schedules within a broader team.
  • Maintain, analyze and report experimental data.
  • Collaborate with other scientists on experimental designs.
  • You will take on general laboratory responsibilities and apply organizational and creative skills to improve lab operations.
  • Maintain safe practices and work environment.

Innovation Project Leader - Health and Nutrition

Position

  • To strengthen our new market development team, we are looking for a Project Leader – Health and Nutrition to develop and manage our development projects.
  • You will be in charge of managing and executing a project portfolio using both internal resources as well as external collaborations aimed to drive strategic innovations in the Health and Nutrition space.
  • The position reports directly to the head of business development and CSO.

Profile

  • Advanced degree (preferably PhD) in nutritional sciences, food science, biotechnology, or bio-process engineering.
  • Background in human or animal nutrition, immunology and gut health are an asset.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Applied science oriented.
  • Ambitious, yet team oriented and able to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with grant and subsidy programs is an asset.

Your tasks

  • Plan and manage our development projects, recruiting internal resources as well as securing and managing third party expertise and collaborations.
  • Identify partners and set up collaborations in different fields.
  • Develop project plans and timelines based on intended commercial outcomes and targeted product profile.
  • Participate in idea generation, maturation and prioritization of new strategic and commercial projects.
  • Track scientific developments in Health and Nutrition areas including pre-clinical and clinical research results.

  • Fluency in English is a must. Other language skills are an asset.
