Carbosurf (Horizon 2020): New processes for the fermentative production of glycolipid biosurfactants and sialylated carbohydrates
On September 16th, the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) launched a €6 million project entitled CARBOSURF with the aim to develop new processes and solve bottlenecks in the fermentative production of biobased biosurfactants and specialty carbohydrates. The new three-year project brings together 11 partners from 4 European countries: Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs), an open innovation pilot plant, four biotech SMEs and three large industries. The project received funding through the first call of the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement N°669003).
This program will bring key support to our company development aiming at increasing our portfolio of more complex and high added-value specialty carbohydrates. Specifically, the project targets the development of innovative fermentation processes to produce sialylated oligosaccharides, a class of very complex Human Milk Oligosaccharides that find a wide variety of application as neutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredients. IB2 Market (FP7) Bringing innovative industrial biotechnology research to the market
IB2Market aims to bring industrial biotechnology from the research lab to the market and to solve the bottlenecks in industrialisation. This project targets the development and scale-up of new industrial biotechnological processes that have recently been developed to produce specialty carbohydrates, mainly for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. Specifically, the project targets human milk oligosaccharides that are very difficult to produce through extraction or chemical synthesis.
